The First Tee Perseverance Award

The Perseverance Award

This year, The First Tee and participating instructors are handing out Perseverance Awards to students who have shown resilience and determination throughout the year.  In addition to be awarded a plaque and certificate, children also received a scholarship for one session in our Life Skills Experience Program at any of our area sites! There are 13 award winners this year from the Kansas City Kansas Public Schools and Hickman Mills School District. We are excited to continue giving out Perseverance Awards to those kids who deserve them in other schools as well. For more information about the award and how you can nominate your own students, check out our website!

STEMLinks Grant: Summer Camps

Looking for summer camps that are fun AND educational?

The First Tee of Greater Kansas City has been selected to receive the STEMLinks grant for summer camps! This year our summer academies, June 19-22 and July 17-20, will be focused on STEM (science, technology, engineering and math), where participants are lead through nine STEM experiments. The First Tee coaches deliver the program to participants, measuring their activities and progress through a “range book.” As an example, participants learn how STEM concepts such as geometric scaling, kinematics and six degrees of freedom are skills needed for reading greens and holing putts.  Participants also learn the function of golf clubs by charting the domain (distance) and range (dispersion) of each club which will improve their ability to plan and estimate when playing the game. Register your participant today!

A Word from Coach G

The First Tee of Greater Kansas City Families, Participants, Board Members, Donor’s, Coaches and more…. Thank you so much for an exciting beginning in my new role as the Program Director for such a greater chapter. It is an honor to be back in my hometown and serve such a great city. I am excited for all that is in store for our participants in 2017. I have been out and about to watch spring classes at most of our facilities and it is exciting to see everything behind the scenes come together. From registration, to coach training, to lesson planning and more. We have many new faces, including participants and coaches, the enthusiasm around everyone is phenomenal! Being a past participant of The First Tee of Greater Kansas City has proved very beneficial in my time. I encourage everyone to continue in the program this summer and beyond. Tell your friends, share our posts, let us know of events where we can share our mission of coaching golf and mentoring young people to develop their character and life skills. We simply could not do it without all of you! In short, thank you and I look forward to meeting you soon.
